The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with grandeur and patriotic fervor at VMV Commerce, JMT Arts, and JJP Science College, Nagpur, under the auspices of Shri Nagpur Gujarati Mandal. The highlight of the celebration was the presence of Dr. Ketan Mohitkar, Member Secretary of the Indian Council for Technical Research and Development (ICTRD), who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The program commenced with the Flag Hoisting Ceremony, led by Dr. Mohitkar alongside other distinguished guests, followed by the National Anthem. The atmosphere was filled with pride and unity as students, faculty, and dignitaries came together to honor the nation’s 79 years of independence.

As a mark of respect and recognition, Dr. Mohitkar was felicitated by Shri Yogeshbhai Patel, President of Nagpur Gujarati Mandal, and other dignitaries. Inaugurating the Arts Exhibition organized by the college, he praised the creativity of students and highlighted the importance of nurturing young talent through education and cultural platforms.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mohitkar shared his reflections on India’s education system, stating, “Our education is not just about chronology and facts, but about wisdom, values, and vision.” He underlined the transformative role of the National Education Policy (NEP) in preparing students for global challenges through holistic development, multidisciplinary learning, and rooted traditions.

The event was further enriched by cultural activities and patriotic performances by students. Distinguished guests including Col. Vikas C. Sharma (Commander, 20 Maharashtra Battalion, National Student Army, Nagpur), Adv. Narendrabhai Jha (Vice President, Gujarati Mandal), and Dr. Abhay Mudgal (Principal, VMV College) added significance to the occasion with their presence.
The celebration concluded with heartfelt gratitude expressed by the college authorities, who lauded Dr. Mohitkar’s inspiring words and his invaluable contribution to education, technology, and nation-building through ICTRD.
